Animafest Zagreb has unveiled its 2024 selection for animation shorts. 36 animation shorts are included in the Grand Competition -Short Film, including the Cannes winner '27' by Flóra Anna Buda and the Czech acclaimed, pixilated film 'Electra' by Daria Kashcheeva (900 submissions in this category in total). We have the new animation documentary by the Portuguese duo of Alexandra Ramires & Laura Gonçalves, 'Percebes', and Nienke Deutz's 'The Miracle' film -among other gems.

Florence Miailhe (The Crossing) returns with the short film 'Butterfly' (Sacrebleu Productions);  Carla Melo Gampert with her 'La Perra' (in our top animation shorts of 2023) is included in the selection.

The Student Film Competition includes 42 animation shorts from Polish to Mexico film and animation schools (850 submitted student films).  22 animation shorts are presented in the Croatian Film Competition. Some Croatian films, like the new film by  Veljko Popović and Milivoj Popović, 'Žarko, You Will Spoil the Child!' feature both in the International and the Croatian film competition.

The pre-selection team included Animafest Zagreb artistic director Daniel Šuljić, Martina Meštrović and Ivan Slipčević (Grand Competition - Short Film & Croatian Film Competition); while Matea Kovač and Laura Martinović selected films, along with Daniel Šuljić, in the Student Film Competition category. A total of 1800 films from 77 countries were submitted to this year's festival.
