Festival Description: KDIAF is held by the Animation Department of Taipei National University of Arts (TNUA, founded in 2001). Hundreds of short films from international competitions, festivals, and student work from all over the world are featured during the festival. Moreover, KDIAF will hold two international school showcases to communicate with overseas fellows. Lastly, KDIAF will also hold several International lectures, animation workshops, activities, and related showcase tours.

2023 Call for Entries (Archive)

The 13th KuanDu International Animation Festival (KDIAF) will take place from 22 to 28 October 2023

The KuanDog Prize is held at KDIAF in 2023 to provide animators with a platform to screen and promote their works. The Festival injects new energy into the animation industry and promotes interactions between local and international participants. The KuanDog Prize encourages submissions from excellent animators and filmmakers. KDIAF also offers screening programs for outstanding animated films in different categories selected from all over the world.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Any audiovisual animated films with a running time of no more than 30 minutes, including titles and credits, may enter. It can be made by any technique or in any genre.
  • Films must be completed after January 1st, 2022, and never previously submitted to KDIAF.

Awards & Prizes:

  • Best Animated Short Film Award: one winner;
    Prize –Cash Prize of 2,000 USD (or 60,000 NTD)and one KuanDog Trophy.
    Eligibility: All animated films are eligible to enter this category. Student-animated films can enter either this category or the Best Student Film category. However, one film can only enter one category.
  • Best Student Film Award: one winner;
    Prize – Cash Prize of 1,500 USD (45,000 NTD) and one KuanDog Trophy.
    Eligibility: Animated film produced while the filmmaker(s) attended educational institutions and was under instructors’ supervision will be considered eligible.
  • Taiwan Special Award: one winner;
    Prize – Cash Prize of 45,000 NTD and one KuanDog Trophy.
    Eligibility: All entered films produced by Taiwanese filmmakers who hold proof of citizenship will be considered eligible.
  • Taiwan Student Award: one winner;
    Prize –Cash Prize of 45,000 NTD and one KuanDog Trophy.
    Eligibility: All entered student films produced by Taiwanese filmmakers who hold proof of citizenship will be considered eligible.
  • Best Taiwanese Film Score: one winner;
    Prize – Cash Prize of 30,000 NTD and one KuangDog Trophy.
    Eligibility: All entered films produced by Taiwanese filmmakers who hold proof of citizenship will be considered eligible.
  • Honorable Mentioned: one or more winners;
    Prize – Award Certificate.
    Eligibility: All entered films will be considered eligible.

The Jury Board panel consists of animators, filmmakers, scholars, and experts who will view and select each category’s winners. The winning films will be announced at the awarding ceremony.
