Oh, Willy, Father win at Athens Animfest

 The quirky story of Oh, Willy conquered the Grand Prix Athena at the 8th Athens Animfest (7-13 March 2013). Runner-up (and 2nd international short award) for the Spanish Bendito Machine (Jossie Malis dir.). The collaborative effort of 6 Croatian-German-Bulgarian directors for the animated documentary Father (Ivan Bogdanov, dir.) tells the true stories of children trying to connect with their father, and won the 3rd international prize.

Special mention received the Sundance-awarded Irish Folk Furniture (Tony Donoghue, 2012) and the latest Georges Schwizgebel film, Romance.

The Anna Mantzaris and Eirik Grønmo Bjørnsen story of a man afraid of a clumsy creature, But Milk is important (Netherlands) won the 1st student award.
The Russian film, Pishto Goes Away (Sonya Kendel) was the 2nd winner, and a third prize was given to Julia Pott's Belly.

The Greek competitive programme featured the win of 2D computer animated film, Life Like a Pencil (Margarita Simopoulou, Technological Institute of Athens), while the Greek-crisis infused The Fartist (Kostas Fatsis) was the runner-up.

 A third prize was given to  Happillness (Maria Kozari-Mela), also from Technological Institute of Athens, a sad and beautiful story of pills promising happiness.

 The 8th Animfest, Athens featured a selection of French and Polish films in its non-competitive programme, as well as workshop by the Israeli animator (clay animation)  Roni Oren.
