Future Encounters 2013: A new generation of UK animators

Future Encounters, BristolFuture Encounters is a showcase of 10 filmmakers whose work demonstrates a distinctive cinematic and artistic vision.

 

Let's get to know the animators who will be present at Future Encounters 2013.

Adam Wells is an animator who creates films that blend character animation and motion design. By enforcing highly disciplined camera direction over the top, he is able to create a unique sense of storytelling and likes to set his films within their own self-contained worlds and act as another character in the narrative. Risehigh is screening in competition at Encounters in the ANI 6: Power, Truth and Beauty programme on Friday 20 September at 10:00 (Arnolfini).

  • David Posser developed an interest for landscapes on both a grand and intimate human scale. Illustration is the pivotal focus of David’s work and from his drawings & sketchbooks animation became the obvious choice of career for him. During his time with The Royal College of Art David created his BAFTA nominated short Matter Fisher. Currently David works as a Designer and Director for AKA. Mountain is screening in competition at Encounters in the ANI 2: From Mountains to Maggots! programme on Wednesday 18 September at 14:30 and on Saturday 21 September at 16:00 (Arnolfini).
  • Felix Massie is a writer, director and animator whose films have been screened at over 100 festivals around the world. Felix spent his early career in Bristol at award winning studios Arthur Cox and Aardman; animating and directing films, commercials, broadcast and online content. After being animation director on the BAFTA winning TATE Movie Project website he moved to London where he made his fourth film, In the Air Is Christopher Gray, and is now represented by Nexus Productions. In The Air is Christopher Gray is screening in competition at Encounters in ANI 3: The Feelgood Factor (Arnolfini). 

There will be a special event on Thursday 19 September at 12:15 at Watershed, featuring a discussion with the Future Encounters to find out who they are and where they are going next.
