10 short French and European animated films have been preselected to compete for the César for the best animated film.

César awards is the French equivalent of the Academy Awards. Each year the French Academy of the Cinema Arts and Techniques preselects 10 short animated films to compete for the César awards.

The 2013 list  has the multi-awarded and strange stop-motion story of  Oh, Willy (Emma de Swaef, Marc James Roels) figures on the list.

2 Folimage Studio films, Bisclavret (Emilie Mercier) and the symbolic tale The Conquerors (Tibor BANOCZKI, Sarolta SZABO) compete.

The Monster of Nix by Rosto (Autour de Minuit prod.) is also preselected.

Edmond Was A Donkey by Franck Dion is another film that has garnered festival acclaim.

After French and Europan feature animated films have also been considered, a joint number of 5 nominees for the best animated French film (short or feature) will be announced on 25 January 2013.

The recipient of the 2012 award was The Rabbi's Cat (Le Chat du Rabbin) by Joann Sfar and Antoine Delesvaux.

The 38th César awards will be bestowed on 22 February 2013.
