Jose Luis Farias (3D Wire director), Zulay Rodríguez (Tenerife Film Commission),  Vicente Edorta (Tenerife Film Commission) and Paul Vaca Alterego (Ecuador) jointly presented the new Quirino awards for animation during 3DWire 2017.

Named after  the Argentinian Quirino Cristiani, who made the first animated feature  -now lost- in Argentina in 2017 El Apóstol,  the new awards aims to encompass all aspects of Ibero-American animation.

Categories for short films, TV/Broadcast, features and commissioned, as well as specific categories for character design and other artistic aspects of animation are also planned.

The main aim of these awards is  to value the talent and industry of Ibero-American animation, but also to generate links and networks between the two sides of the ocean.

Part of this event is not only the award ceremony, but also a co-production forum and an Ibero-American congress, which will underline the cultural commonalities between Spanish-Portuguese language animation projects in both sides of the Atlantic (and further collaboration as a result).

Expect a call for entries within October 2017 via the official page.

The first edition of the Quirino Awards will take place in Tenerife, Spain (6-7 April 2018), supported byTurismo de Tenerife board, in partnership with Festival of Animation, Cuernavaca Video Games and Comics Festival (Mexico) and 3D Wire (Spain).
