ArtFX Academy, the new French School of the Arts of Animation and Visual Effects

At  the Digital Creative Genie Awards ceremony during the Paris Images Digital Summit 2020, Gilbert Kiner the President of the French school ArtFX, and the city of Enghien-les-Bains announced the creation of ArtFX Academy.

This new higher education programme for Animation and Visual Effects will open its doors in September 2020 in Enghien-les-Bains (Ile-de-France - France).

Animation and VFX are a sector booming, having created many jobs over recent years and will continue to do so in the future. By cultivating its high standards and independent model, over the past 15 years ArtFX has become a centre of excellence, recognised and acclaimed worldwide for its teaching methods and its ability to adapt to the needs of industry. The idea behind our move to the Ile-de-France region is to strengthen our relationships with French studios and in particular with studios in Paris. By deepening our work with them on our innovative educational methods and the professional-student relationship, we want to prepare the ‘professions of tomorrow’, linked to the evolution of digital technologies and the new cultural consumption of an international audience - Gilbert Kiner, founder and President of ArtFX.

ArtFX Academy: the quintessance of ArtFX in the Ile-de-France region.
For the past 15 years, ArtFX has been training young talents in Montpellier in the fields of 2D and 3D animation, special effects cinema and video games It has created a unique teaching system, based around workshops supervised by professionals from all over the world. Combining hi-tech and traditional skills, it encourages students to become actors in their own learning.


• The ArtFX Academy programme, which can be joined following a competitive entrance examination accessible after 3 years of higher education or significant professional experience, uses this teaching method and offers 25 students a 4th and 5th year Master’s programme including:
✓ Intensive refresher courses supported by a professional supervisor
✓ Specific specialisation, notably in Animation, VFX, Rigg, Pipeline TD (Technical Director) ...

• Registration opens on 1 February – Competitive entrance exam during April.
• Cost of the programme: €8,500/year
The ArtFX Academy has been created in partnership with the city of Enghien-les-Bains.

Villa ArtFX: a residence dedicated to future talents in animation and VFX

Conceived as a residency, the Villa ArtFX, which hosts the ArtFX Academy, provides the 25 students quality of life and autonomy, and benefits from tailor-made technical and human resources thanks to the infrastructures and network of the Centre des Arts de la ville d’Enghien-les-Bains. The Villa is located in an ideal setting, in a park just 100 from the lake, in close proximity to Paris (only 14 minutes from the Gare du Nord railway station), the leading employment basin in the sector in France**.

Since joining the UNESCO Creative Cities Network in the digital arts category, which today has 17 cities, including Austin, Toronto, Guadalajara, Cali, Dakar, Tel Aviv, Sapporo, Changsha, Gwangju, Braga, York, Lyon, Viborg, Karlsruhe, Linz, Kosice, in 2013 the city of Enghien-les-Bains, a genuine area of innovation, has benefitted from a digital ecosystem (embodied particularly by the Centre des Arts which oversees the Numeric Lab, an incubator for innovative start-ups in the field of creative and cultural industries on behalf of the city).

ArtFX is an independent private school founded in Montpellier, France, in 2004 by Gilbert Kiner, and passionate professionals from the cinema industry. It trains young talent in the fields of 2D and 3D animation, visual effects, and video games. ArtFX is at the heart of innovation combining hi-tech and traditional skills. This will be located in the heart of Plaine Images, a centre of excellence totally dedicated to the creative industries.
