NB: New festival dates are tentative

Festival Statement: As mentioned in our TOP News, the Hungarian government has banned  indoor events with more than 100 people and outdoor events with more than 500 people because of the state of emergency amid coronavirus pandemic. All these restrictions are being kept for minimum two months, which includes the scheduled date of the 30th Mediawave, so understanding the emergency we postpone our gathering. We are looking for the possibilities of the later realization.

 Our team started to work on rescheduling the Gathering for mid September. As soon as we come to an agreement with the venues, we'll contact the invited artists, film makers, musicians, organisers about their availability in this period.

ANOTHER CONNECTION - MEDIAWAVE Film and Music Gathering celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2020. We want to make it special by inviting artists, friends, films and performances that have made our event unique so far. We made a decision to change our usual film program structure: the main program is going to be made up of the most decisive films of our history. That is why we will not announce a regular fim competition. However, we would like to give the opportunity for the new films to appear at the anniversary. Our On the Road Online Film Festival has been running for 5 years and now we invite film makers with pleasure to participate there. The best films selected by a professional jury will be screened at the Festival and the directors will also be invited.

Our event is a free spirit artistic and community oriented festival in the unique, historic Fort Monostor, Komárom, by the river Danube. We prefer original views independent of fashion streams reflected in films as well as in music and other arts. We tend to establish real communities and connections by announcing and giving place to different actions. Besides screenings, we have jazz, improvised, ethno, folk concerts and workshops, several exhibitions, theatre and smaller actions. Improvised party is all day long on, spiced with gastronomy and open air cooking. The fortress can host three hundred people and is a good place for tents and sleeping on military beds.
We accept submissions until 8 December, 2019.

2019 Festival Coverage

Submissions to the MEDIAWAVE International Film and Music Gathering are accepted until 10 January, 2019 to the classic film competition and the "On the Road" Online Film Festival.

In both cases, you can send your films in the following categories:

• documentary
• short fiction
• animation
• experimental

The languages of the Festival are English and Hungarian. In case the language of the film is other than English, it must be sent for selection with English subtitles. Entry forms must be completed, uploaded and printed, signed and submitted before 10 January, 2019 (preferably in December), along with the online link of your film (vimeo, youtube… etc.). The films can also be uploaded to our server.

Entry Categories

• GENERAL – apart from feature films, each category can be submitted (short fiction, documentary, animation and experimental). If it is a genre in between, you can mark more categories.
• MINORITY - Any films can be submitted which deal with the problems and situation (ethnic, everyday life, sexual, etc.) of small ethnic groups and other minorities.
• DUSTY REELS - films, that were once swept away by storms of the history, and were not presented due to isolation, political or economic reasons, or only a limited number of people, but not the general public could have seen them, or were put back into their boxes after a few showings. We are searching for imprints of disappeared worlds, for films preserving their artistic value despite the passing of time.
• MUSIC AND DANCE FILMS – we are expecting those films, which reveal the world of jazz, improvised music, the contemporary and archaic folk music, furthermore the films based on dance and movement, both in documentary and fiction category.
• “ON THE ROAD” ONLINE FILM FESTIVAL – we are looking for films, which, out of the classic film festival form, can be watched (between 1 March and 30 April, 2019) and voted (until 31 March) online in a limited period of time.

The two submission types do not exclude each other, however, the online form is supposed to expand the number of film views. We are aware that certain film festivals do not accept films already online so we gladly include earlier works in our online program.

Since we realised that the dates of Mediawave in the beginning of May have a lot to do with the cultic, ancient mayfest celebrating the invigorating nature and fertility we have tried to present it in different ways to the visitors of our community. Now we are waiting for the entries in all forms. If you think your film suits our special theme, feel free to mark the category RITUALS to interpret or visualise rituals in any ways, in either ancient or modern senses, and consider it as real call to become an active member of our community.
