Annecy 2014: Selection Results (Shorts)

 43 films from 20 countries (out of 2, 293 films received) were selected for the shorts section.  Prominent animation auteurs and upcoming animators have been selected in one of the most prestigious animation festival.

The Canadian Steve Woloshen competes with 1000 Plateaus, while Theodore Ushev is back with his new film 3e page après le soleil. The Argentinian Santiago 'Bou' Grasso who made a splash with L'Empleo returns with his new film, Padre.

Estonian acclaimed animators Olga PÄRN and Priit PÄRN compete with their film Pilots On the Way Home. The British Stephen Irwin (Moxie) now returns with another awkward story with The Obvious Child

 The Polish animator Piotr Dumala (Crime and Punishment) goes to Annecy with Hipopotamy, a story of sexual aggression purportedly told in the violent behaviour of hippopotamuses.

The Oscar-awarded Thomas Stellmach (for his 1987 stop-motion Quest) presents, along with co-director Maja Oschmannan, an abstract film with various techniques called Virtuos Virtuell.

 12 films were selected in the new, Off-Limits section. See all selected films.

 56 films compete in the graduation section, including Nicolas Menard's Somewhere . 12 British films are in competition, 5 of them coming from the Royal College of Arts. Films by Daniela Sherer (The Shirley Temple), Tom Law (Eyes) and Effie Pappa (My Stuffed Granny) compete.

 The TV competition is dominated by French and American productions, with work also coming from Brazil, Columbia, Pakistan and the Ukraine.

Selection of feature films will be announced at the end of April. The full programme will be available at the beginning of May.

 Annecy festival  (9-14 June 2014) will focus this year on stop-motion, and the Franck Dion poster reflects this tendency.
