Bob Sabiston Comes to Ottawa

bob-sabiston-juryStarting from his student days at MIT Media Film Lab, Bob Sabiston has opened new fields in animation with his own version of rotoscope programme -a technique polarizing animators and audience alike since Fleischer patented it in 1917.

His characteristic "free-floating"  Rotoshop programme has been used to great effect in Richard Linklater's Waking Life (2001) and A Scanner Darkly (2006).

Ottawa International Animation Festival has invited Sabiston to showcase his work at the 2017 festival edition. Organizers state:

Sabiston's hybrid animation creates a unique collision between reality and fantasy, revealing an anxious, absurd, and unreal world that is also the very real and wacky sensation of living.

Bob Sabiston will also undertake jury duties in the festival competitive programe.

This year's OIAF takes place 20-24 September 2017. The poster was designed by Montreal-based animator Elise Simard.
