Factual Animation Film Festival

Event Description: FAFF celebrates factual and documentary animation - the first festival of its kind anywhere. FAFF occurs online and offline, enabling filmmakers in this blossoming medium to connect and collaborate. Moreover, FAFF 2023 will host interviews with the filmmakers. There will be awards for the best film at the festival. All mediums and techniques of animation are welcome, on any topic as long as it is non-fictional in nature. 2023 Call for Entries (Archive)

The 8th Factual Animation Film Festival will take place on 14 October 2023.

Categories:

• Animated shorts of 1-20 minutes: Animated or predominantly animated short films of a non-fictional nature. Any subject, technique, or genre. 0-60 seconds in duration.
• Animated shorts of under 1 minute: Animated or predominantly animated short films of a non-fictional nature. Any subject, technique, or genre. 1-20 minutes in duration.

Eligibility criteria:

• Films must include animation on screen for at least 50% of their runtime to be eligible for consideration. All films must be non-fictional in nature - ie. concern a factual subject. Examples of "factual animation" include:

- An animated film about a factual subject
- About dreams or hallucinations
- Telling a family story
- Representations of physical and mental health conditions
- Visualises folklore, prejudice, and other 'invisible' subjects
- A factual story told through a fictional character
- A public service announcement
- News and reportage
- About historical events
- An educational film
- A biopic
- About social issues
- An explainer video
- Visualises statistics or abstract concepts
- An NGO, social or political campaign film
