Festival Statement: Animayo Gran Canaria 2020, will become the First Festival of animation, visual effects and video games in the world made on a 100% virtual platform.
In response to the situation caused by the new Covid-19 coronavirus, and in an exercise of responsibility to avoid possible contagions beyond the fact that the Alarm State was no longer in force on the dates of its celebration, the organization will advance the launch of the virtual Animayo in its fifteenth edition. A worldwide unprecedented model in which Animayo has been working in recent years and which will place the island of Gran Canaria and its capital, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, at the epicenter of the audiovisual industry, more than ever, worldwide.
The cultural offer has been forced to reinvent itself and Animayo is not far behind, developing this novel festival model quite quickly. The Animayo Gran Canaria 2020 program will take place in different periods of time, from May to November, and will unfold on four stages: virtual, streaming, online and in person.
The call for entries is already open for the International Film Contests Animayo 2020, Qualifying festival for the OSCAR® in the animated short film category. Animayo winners will be eligible for consideration in the “Animated Short Film” of the Academy Awards® without the standard theatrical run, provided the film otherwise complies with the Academy rules.
Exclusive for applying to works of 2D animation, 3D animation, visual effects, experimental, advertising, animated spots, music videos and video games cinematics.
The International Jury will award three main prize categories:
- ‘Grand Prize of the Jury' (winner of the festival)
- ‘Animación con Ñ' (best Spanish animation)
- ‘Audience Award’
- ‘Children Audience Award. Mi Primer Festival’
In addition, there will be a prize given by Damián Perea, director and producer of the Animayo Festival, called
Animayo is an inspirational event that was born in 2006, directed by the Spanish director and producer Damián Perea, who was one of the first ambassadors of Spain of the European Animation Émile Awards and member of the European Academy of Cinematography (EAA).
