European Animation Awards also extends the number of nominated films from 3 to 5 in its second edition (7-8 December 2018, Lille).

After the call for nomimations to EAA members (here's how to join) , European Animation Awards unveiled at the 2018  Annecy Festival their Board of Members, with Peter Lord (UK) renewing his presidency for a second year.

There are  some significant changes to the awards themselves, which intend to celebrate the excellence and diversity of European Animation, ano include an extended, 2-day celebration with Workshops, Conferences and Exhibitions at Lille, France (7-8 Dec 2018).

  • Two categories have been added to pool of awards. Sound Designers will be rewarded for their work with Best Sound Design in a TV/Broadcast Production and Best Sound Design in a Feature Film.
  • The number of nominations per categories has been upgraded to five, putting up to 90 the total number of possible nominations.
  • Animated Student Films  can only enter if they have been either Selected or Awarded in the official competition in at least one of the events listed in Annex 1 between July 31, 2017 and October 15, 2018. (The premiere edition only allowed films selected at 5 animation festivals).
  • Commissioned Film can only enter if they have been either Selected or Awarded in the official competition in at least one of the events listed in Annex 1 between July 31, 2017 and October 15, 2018
    OR Premiered on television or other qualified broadcast venue (internet and other  home-directed Broadcastings) between July 31, 2017 and October 15, 2018 
  • Animation Short Films can only enter if they have been Awarded in the official competition in at least one of the events listed in Annex 1 between July 31, 2017 and October 15, 2018. (Again, the premiere edition only allowed films selected at 5 animation festivals,).
  • Feature Animated Films can only enter if they have either Awarded in the official competition in at least one of the events listed in Annex 2 (Anima Brussels, World festival of animated film Animafest ZAGREB, Annecy (France),  Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, Cannes Festival, Berlinale, ITFS Stuttgart, Venice Film Festival, Locarno International Film Festival
    OR Premiered in cinemas or other qualified broadcast venue (internet and other home-directed Broadcastings) between July 31, 2017 and October 15
    ​OR Be programmed for release in theatres before December 7, 2018.

So, there in indeed an expanse in the number of short films that can actually qualify for the European Emile Awards, even though the categories alloted for short films (4) remain disproportionate compared to features (7) and TV/Broadcast European productions (7).

There will an expanded 2-day celebration of European Animation Awards, compirising Conferences, Master Classes, Workshops, Exhibitions and Screenings. All the events will happen in the city of Lille. The Award ceremony will be held on December 8, in the Nouveau Siècle auditorium, in Lille..
