The Greek stop-motion film won the Special Jury Mention for a Short Film at the 24th festival edition.

A dead-pan, highly atonal and immensely powerful stop-motion film, Icebergs (US/Greece) by Eirini Vianelli won the Special Jury Mention for a Short Film at the 2018 Sarajevo Film Festival

Icebergs is an existential, dark comedy consisting of 14 short vignettes, ranging from the mundane to the absurd. It is based on the book “Scenes” by the Oscar-nominated screenwriter Efthymis Filippou (for Yorgos Lanthimos' film The Lobster).

Icebergs is Eirini Vianelli's graduation film from CalArts, and has screened in competition at Glas Animation Festival, Slamdance and Oberhausen Film Festivals. It also won the Golden Gate Award for Animated Short at the San Francisco International Film Festival 2018. The Sarajevo festival film jury was comprised of Konstantina Kotzamani (Writer, Director, Greece), Antoneta Alamat Kusijanović (Writer, Director, Croatia), and Ena Sendijarević (Filmmaker, Netherlands, Bosnia and Herzegovina).

Watch Vianelli's previous 2D film, The Leaf of the Poplar.
The 24th Sarajevo Film Festival took place 10-17 August 2018.
