Festival Description

KDIAF is held by the Animation Department of Taipei National University of Arts (TNUA, founded in 2001) . During the festival,  hundreds of short films from international competitions, festivals, and student works from all over the world are featured. Moreover, KDIAF will hold two international school showcase to communicate with overseas fellows. Last but not least, KDIAF will also hold several International lectures, animation workshops, activities and related showcase tours.
 

2020  Call for entries 

Any audiovisual animated films, created frame by frame, with a running time less than 30 minutes, including titles and credits may be entered. It can be made of any techniques or genre. Films must be completed after January 1st, 2019 and never previously submitted to KDIAF.

Awards:

-Best Animated Short Film Award: one winner; Prize –Cash Prize of US$2,000 and one KuanDog Trophy
Eligibility: All animated films are eligible to enter this category. Student animated films can be opted to enter either this category or the Best Student Film category. However, one film can only choose one category.

-Best Student Film Award: one winner; Prize – Cash Prize of US$1,500 and one KuanDog Trophy
Eligibility: An animated film was produced while the filmmaker(s) were attending educational institutions and under instructors’ supervision.

-Taiwan Special Award: one winner; Prize – Cash Prize of 45,000 NTD and one KuanDog Trophy
Eligibility: All entered films produced by Taiwanese filmmakers who hold proof of citizenship will be considered eligible.

- Taiwan Student Award: one winner; Prize –Cash Prize of 45,000 NTD and one KuanDog Trophy
Eligibility: All selected student films produced by Taiwanese filmmakers who hold proof of citizenship will be considered eligible.

-Best Promising Score in Industry Award: one winner; Prize – Cash Prize of 1,000 USD and one KuangDog Trophy
Eligibility: All films entered in all above categories can be considered for this award.

-Honorable Mentioned: could be more than one winner Prize – Award Certificate
Eligibility: All films entered in all above categories can be considered for this award.

2018 KDIAF Call for Entries! From April 15th to July 15th, everyone is welcomed to submit their works and join us.

 The KuanDog Awards Categories:

  • Best International Animated Short Film: One winner; Prize –Cash Prize of US$2,000 and the KuanDog Trophy
    Eligibility: All productions are eligible to enter this category. Student productions can be opted to enter either this category or Best student Film category; however, each film can only choose one category.
  • Best Student Film: One winner; / Prize – Cash Prize of US$1,500 and the KuanDog Trophy
    Eligibility: A film that was produced whiles the filmmaker(s) attending educational institutions and under instructors’ supervision.
  • Taiwan Special Award: one winner; Prize – Cash Prize of 45000NTD and the KuanDog Trophy
    Eligibility: All entered films that are/were produced by Taiwanese Filmmaker(s) can be considered for this award. To be eligible for Taiwan Special Award, the producer or director of the selected film may be required to provide proof of citizenship.
  • Best Original Score:one winner, Prize – Cash Prize of 1000USD and the KuangDog Trophy
    Eligibility: All films entered in all above categories can be considered for this award.
  • Tsai Han-I Taiwan student Award : one winner; Prize –Cash Prize of 45000NTD and the KuanDog Trophy
    Eligibility: All selected student films that is produced by Taiwanese Filmmaker(s) can be considered for this award. To be Eligible for Taiwan Special Award, the producer or director of the selected film may be required to provide proof of citizenship.

    -Honorable Mentions: Prize – Award Certificates
    Eligibility: All films entered in all above categories can be considered for this award. There may be more than one film being awarded this honor.
    (There maybe more than one film being awarded Honorable Mentioned. The jury could also opt to give specific titles of each Honorable Mentioned recipient, i.e. Excellence in Character Design, Excellence in Art Direction, Best Experimental Animation, Best Original Score, Commercial special and etc.)

Nominated films will be screened during the festival between October 28th to November 4th (free entrance to all audiences). Various experts and respectable artists from both international and domestic will judge for our final five KuanDog Awards. The five titles include “ Best International Short Film”, “ Best International Student Short Film”,“ Best Taiwanese Short Film”, “ Best original score” and “Tsai Han-yi Award for Best Taiwanese Student Short Film ”. Fellow judges would like to select a few “ Honorable Mentions” to certify and encourage those passionate artists of their efforts.
