European Animation Emile Awards 2025: Nominations
The re-scaled European Animation (Emile) Awards have returned with a bunch of nominations for both short and feature animation. The Oscar-awarded 'Flow' by Gints Zilbalodis is (understandably) in the nominees, along with 'Sirocco and the Kingdom of the Winds', 'Sultana's Dream,' and 'Pelican Blue'.
All four features will compete for Best Writing in Feature, Best Soundtrack in Feature, Best Backgrounds and Character Design in Feature, Best Animation in Feature, and Best of the Best in Feature.

The animation short categories feature the Annecy-awarded pin screen 'Night Boots' (Pierre-Luc Granjon), the acclaimed (and multiple award-winning) Ukrainian animation short 'I Died in Irpin' (Anastasiia Falileieva), and three more French (co-)produced films. 'Beautiful Men' by Nicolas Keppens, Nina Gantz's stop-motion 'Wander to Wonder', and the Holocaust-themed 'Butterfly' by Florence Miailhe.
Both Keppen's and Miailhe's films also compete in the Best Character Design and Best Sound Design categories, respectively. Two nominations also for the Polish stop-motion film 'Joko' by Izabela Plucinska (Best Animation and Best Character Design and Background for A Short Film). Two other Polish films get a single nod: 'Zima' (Winter) by Tomek Popakul, Kasumi Ozeki (Best Sound and Music Design), and 'There are people in the woods' by Szymon Ruczynski (Best Student Film).

Joko
The queer-themed 'Carrotica' comedy by Daniel Sterlin-Altman competes in the student category; the 2024 Annecy winner 'Percebes' by Alexandra Ramires and Laura Gonçalves gets a single nomination in the Best Character Design and Backgrounds category -in the same category, the Croatian/French film 'Zarko, Zarko, You will Spoil the by Milivoj Popovic & Veljko Popovic is also nominated.
