'Beautiful Men', 'Memoir of a Snail', 'Percebes' in the CINANIMA Festival 2024 Winners
Nicolas Keppens and his bald, stop-motion comedy of manners 'Beautiful Men' was the big winner of the 48th CINANIMA Festival in Espinho, Portugal (8-17 November 2024). The film received the festival's Grand Prize for Best Short Film (jury: Bruno Simões, Joanna Quinn, Juan Carlos Concha, Marta Pajek, Olivier Cotte). While the the Canadian film 'A Crab in the Pool' Alexandra Myotte, Jean-Sébastien Hamel got the festival's special mention.
In the feature film battle between the two most acclaimed indie animation features of 2024, Adam Eliot and his 'Memoir of A Snail' stop-motion feature won. The Latvian's Gints Zilbalodis' ecological post-human tale of a cat and its companions 'Flow' received the festival's special mention.
'Percebes' by Alexandra Ramires and Laura Gonçalves won both the festival's National Competition prize and the Audience Award, with a topic (sea and its unlimited exploitation) and a viewpoint (the complete cycle of the life of a special shellfish called Percebes) that drew attention.
