84 animated short films (44 short films, 11 graduation films, 8 TV& commissioned for International Competition, and 21 Korean short films, five of which are also presented in the International Competition) have been selected for the Bucheon International Animation Festival (BIAF, 25-29 October, South Korea). 

It was a tough call for the selection committee (director Im Chaerin, Cine21 Journalist & Scenario writer Kim Somi, BIAF program director Eugene Kim, and BIAF Programmer Lee Eunwha) who had to choose from 2,752 submissions out of 106 countries represented.

World Premieres

1. Paranoid Kid | JOUNG Yumi | South Korea | 6’50’’ World Premiere
On that familiar night, a sense of anxiety and fearful emotions came over me. Countless thoughts and questions followed.
Joung Yumi is a 4 times Berlin Film Festival nominee. She competes at BIAF with another, Berlin-premiering short 'Circle'.
 

2. Bound | Masha ELLSWORTH | USA, Ukraine, Germany | 4’00’’ World Premiere
In a picturesque Ukrainian village, Galya and Ivanko, both in their early 20s, meet by chance when Ivanko's rake catches a thread on Galya's apron. This encounter sparks a connection, but misunderstandings and missed opportunities ensue. 

3. The Roe Deer | Delphine PRIET-MAHÉO | France | 9’22’’ World Premiere
Overwhelmed by her family life, a woman abandons her husband and children for an afternoon in pursuit of a roe deer.

4. The Melody of Sheep | Marc FAYE | France | 17’54’’ World Premiere
In the remote countryside, Marcel,an old retired farmer, continues to tend his land and his sheep. One summer morning, as he is overcome by a stroke, his flock escapes and a dreamlike vision appears to him

 5. Becoming Air | Alisi TELENGUT, Diego GALAFASSI | Canda, Sweden, Germany, Brazil | 6’24’’ World Premiere
Take a deep breath. As you exhale, imagine that in about three years, anywhere you would go on the planet you will find molecules that were inside you in this moment.

3 more world premieres:
'Spore Love', 'Eat With' two BIAF2023 production-supported work, and 'Holosaurus' produced by KAFA, Korean Film Council will have their world premieres at BIAF2024.

• Supersilly | Veronica MARTIRADONNA | France, Italy | 9’28’’ : After entering a tent, a little girl emerges frightened, grown up, and strangely dressed in a rabbit costume. In this inner journey, this young woman will understand the original drama that causes the suffering she is enduring today.

• Scent of First Love | TAKAGI Maho | Japan | 5’34’’ (CoMix Wave Films, TV & Commissioned Category): A poignant story of a girl who is reminded of her first love, which she can never relive, through nostalgic scents encountered in her daily life. This simple yet evocative narrative explores the powerful connection between memories and sensory experiences.
