Call for Papers: Gender & Animation

society-for-animation-studiesSociety for Animation Studies  launches a call for short entries to feature in the animation studies 2.0 blog.

The monthly online blog (founded by Nichola Dobson, and co-edited by Amy Ratell, Timo Linsenmaier and Paul Ward) has featured themes on McLaren centenary, and New Theoretical Approaches to Animation among other animation topics.

In its August theme, animation studies 2.0 calls for Gender & Animation short blog entries (300-500 words).

The issue, curated by Alison Loader, will address the very broad (pun intended) topic of Gender and Animation.

Themes like representations of gender, identity and sexuality in animated media, divisions of labour and other issues in production culture (especially commercial animation and the game industry), bringing feminist theory to the classroom are welcome.

Rants and provocations inspired by lived experiences of the workplace, stereotyping in contemporary cartoons, or even defensive mansplaining are all welcome, along with summaries and extracts of more extensive research. Posts connected to pedagogy and academic life are especially welcome.

Entries may or may not include embedded video clips and links to other pages. Authors should include a short bio to accompany the post. All permissions are the responsibility of the contributor.

Deadline: 31st July 2014. Please contact the editor This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. with submissions or questions.

Assuming an excess of material, a second month of Gender and Animation is planned for December.

The deadline for December will be November 15, 2014.
