Tram, Crulic sway the Annecy awards
The funny, lonesome, and irresistibly erotic female bus driver of Tram (Michaela Pavlatova, France, Sacrebleu productions) won the Annecy Cristal at the 2012 competition.
The Oscar-nominated Czech animator (Carnival of Animals) produced this 8-minute short in France, with gusto and a lot of Freudian charm. Tram also won the FIPRESCI award, selected by a panel of critics.
A special jury award was given to the self-discovery story Edmond Was a Donkey by Franck Dion (France, Canada),
The Best Feature award went to the documentary animated film Crulic: The Path to Beyond (Anca Damian) (read the review). Crulic tells the story of the 33-year-old Romanian Claudiu Crulic, accused of theft in Poland, who goes on a hunger strike afterwards.
Special distinction was reserved for the Alzheimer drama, Wrinkles (Arrugas la pelicula, Ignacio Ferreras, Spain).
Audience award for a feature film (as well as the UNICEF award) went to another doc: Approved for Adoption is the story of Korean writer Jung, who was adopted in Belgium after the Korean war ended. In the graduation category, Will Anderson (UK) received the premier award for his film The Making of Longbird, a 15-minute self-referential piece that explores a filmmaker's struggles with his character.
Special jury award to the French film Crowd (Borris Labbe, France).
