'Away' by Gints Zilbalodis Back In the UK and Irish Cinemas in March 2025

After the double Oscar nomination for his second animation feature 'Flow' (Best Animation Feature and Best International Feature) in 2025, the Latvian artist and director Gints Zilbalodis will have his first feature (the equally dreamy 'Away') back in the UK and Irish cinemas in March 2025.
Away is a fantasy adventure about a boy travelling across an island on a motorcycle, trying to escape a dark spirit and get back home. Along the way, he makes a series of connections with different animals and reflects on the possible ways he ended up on the island. Part dream, part reality, Away explores our common, universal need to find a connection - Film Synopsis.
Zilbalodis single-handedly created the film over three and a half years. 'Away' got the Contrechamp award for Feature Animation at the 2019 Annecy Festival, and it was an Annie-nominated film (for Outstanding Achievement in Music in an Animated Feature Production)
We wrote in our original review: "Away is economical in its timing (both in overall duration, and in its individual scenes), ambitious in its widescreen format, and grand in its archetypal choice of themes and norms".
