36 Animation Films for Children for Animafest Zagreb 2019

36 Animation Films for Children for Animafest Zagreb 2019

The central event of the rich Animafest Zagreb 2019 Children and Youth Programme is the Films for Children Competition, an international selection of 36 films from 24 countries worldwide.

Established names are here, one of which is Regina Pessoa  with her new film Uncle Thomas, Accounting for The Days. From the filmmaker’s childhood memories, this movie pays a tribute to her uncle Thomas, a humble but a little bit eccentric man, who had a simple and ordinary life.

The Slovenian film series sensation Koyaa by Kolja Saksida comes with a new episode, Koyaa -Elusive Paper of the stop-motion series.

Outdoors, Koyaa wants to paint some watercolours while Mr Raven is crafting a cardboard birdhouse. Koyaa grabs his brush to start painting but the canvas starts folding all by itself – once, twice ... – flying off as a paper airplane. He tries grabbing it as it shifts into a jumpy frog, then a ship and soon a butterfly ... Koyaa realizes he'll need a special plan to outsmart the tricky paper sheet.

A 3-country co-production, Martin Smatana's stop-motion The Kite competes,  along with the mixed-media effort by Nara Normande, Guaxama (France, Brazil / 2018)
