Animist Tallinn International Animation Festival

Festival Description

Animist Tallinn is an annual animation festival that offers the audience an overview of the best contemporary films, values animation as an art form, promotes creative thinking, and contributes to the distribution of Estonian animation.

The third edition of Animist Tallinn takes place from August 16 to 19, the center of the festival is the cinema Sõprus. In 2023, the sub-theme of the festival will be "The Human And The Animal".

As part of the Animist Academy, a number of lectures, workshops and conversations will take place, which will help to open up the creative process of animation and explore its interdisciplinary opportunities. The Animist Academy is run by Animist Tallinn in cooperation with the Animation Department of the Estonian Academy of Arts and Tallinn University Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology. The festival is organized by the NGO Animist Tallinn. Animist is supported by the Estonian Film Institute, the Estonian Cultural Foundation and City of Tallinn Culture and Sports Department.

2023 Call for Entries (Archive)

The 3rd Animist Tallinn will take place in Tallinn from 16 – 19 August 2023.

Competition categories:

• Best Animated Short (The international competition of short animated films)

Eligibility:

• The competition is open to films created with any animation technique.
• Only animated films completed after January 1, 2021 may be submitted to participate in the Festival competition.
• The duration must not exceed 30 minutes of the total running time.
• Only completed animated films will be taken into consideration in the preselection process.

Awards:

• Best Animated Short
  Supported by the Culture & Sports Department of Tallinn.
  Award: 3,000 euros.

The prize money is disbursed to the director of the film.

Animist Tallinn, International Animation Festival is an animation festival organized by MTÜ Animist Tallinn. The festival is supported by the Estonian Film Institute, the Cultural Endowment of Estonia, and the Culture & Sports Department of Tallinn.
