WHAT IS PROJECT LAB

The 4th BtD Project Lab is now open for application! Project Lab is an immersive workshop and think-tank for projects suitable for Sino-European co-production. It has two modules of 3-4 days each. The first module is held in China (e.g. Shanghai in 2015, Beijing in 2016, Nanjing in 2017) and the second module with the same projects is held a few months later in Europe (e.g. Locarno in 2015, Venice in 2016, Berlin in 2018). Participants are coached by high-level writing and production tutors from China and Europe on story structure, believability of the setting in relation to the other co-producing part and feasibility of co-production. 6-8 European and 6-8 Chinese projects with a clear perspective of collaboration between China and Europe will be selected for the Lab. Among the projects, this year there will be additional opportunities for Dutch filmmakers who are focusing on book adaptations of youth and family films.

 OBJECTIVES & BENEFITS
Enrich understanding of differences in culture, taste, film industry procedures between Europe and China;
Improve story telling according to the defined target audience;
Identify the unique selling points of the project and enhance the quality of pitching to a foreign professional audience;
Check the co-production feasibility, funding opportunities and define a financial strategy;
Empower a network of relationships among attending professionals.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE
Participants should be creative teams of experienced producer AND director OR writer working on the development of a fiction feature (including animation). The project should already have a treatment with full development of story structure, characters and locations.

STRUCTURE & SCHEDULE
The Lab will be structured into two modules with the first module to be held in China and the second module to be held in Europe. Each module will include open pitchings & discussion, one-to-one meetings with tutors, plenary sessions, group sessions, open seminars and networking.

CONDITIONS & FEES
The Lab is free of charge and covers the costs of tuition, accommodation and subsistence during the days of the Lab. Travel costs, visa fees, translations as well as additional costs during the Lab are expected to be covered by the participants.
