Tram, Crulic sway the Annecy awards
The funny, lonesomeand irresistibly erotic female bus driver of Tram (Michaela Pavlatova, France, Sacrebleu productions) won the Annecy Cristal at the 2012 competition.
The Oscar-nominated Czech animator (Carnival of animals) produced this 8-minute short in France, with gusto and lot of Freudian charm. Tram also won the FIPRESCI award from a selected panels of critics.
Special jury award was given to the self-discovery story Edmond Was a Donkey,Franck Dion, France, Canada,
Best feature award went to the documentary animated film Crulic: the Path to Beyond (Anca Damian) (read the review). Crulic tells the story of the 33 year-old Romanian Claudiu Crulic, accused of theft in Poland, who goes on a hunger strike afterwards.
Special distinction was reserved for the Alzheimer drama, Wrinkles (Arrugas la pelicula, Ignacio Ferreras, Spain).
Audience award for a feature film (as well as the UNICEF award) went to another doc: Approved for Adoption is the story of Korean writer Jung, who was adopted in Belgium after the Korean war ended (film teaser and poster)
In the graduation category, Will Anderson (UK) received the premier award for his The Making of Longbird, a self-referential 15-min film, which looks at a filmmaker as he struggles with his character.
