Purpleboy, On n’est pas près d’être des super héros, Vanamehe Film Win at Anima Brussels 2020

The 39th ANIMA, the Brussels International Animation Film Festival, came to a close on Sunday evening in Flagey's Studio 4.

Oscar is a child germinating in its parent's garden. Its body is developping underground. Nobody knows its biological sex but he wants to be a boy. One day, Oscar gets out of the ground and discovers his female body. After this painful discovery, is his desired identity finally going to be accepted?

The jury also awarded its special prize to Luca Tóth for the film Mr. Mare and gave the Creative Revelation prize, offered by the Korean Cultural Centre for the best student short film, to Sh_t Happens by David Stumpf and Michaela Mihalyi.

The last international prize, this time from the junior jury, made up of representatives from the webtv Ceci n’est pas un Buzz, chose Carol Freeman’s The Bird and the Whale as their best short film for a young audience.

The national competition jury  – made up of Juan Antin, Alex Dudok de Wit and Sarah Van Den Boom – awarded the prize for best Belgian short film, offered by the Sabam, to the animation documentary On n’est pas près d’être des super héros by Lia Bertels

It takes time to grow up. And sometimes you even wonder if it’s really worth it… Then the children move slowly, at their own pace, the time to tame the world that awaits them. On the way, they ask questions and invent answers using their overflowing imagination.

Forced to look after his grandchildren, a grandfather overwhelms them with thankless tasks on his farm. The kids accidentally let out the grandfather's cow that needs to be milked quickly or else its udder is likely to spectacularly explode…unless the mysterious Milk Man kills it before! Watch out!... This is a blast!

Physique de la Tristesse by Theodore Ushev was chosen best short film from the audience.. The young spectators voted for the feature SamSam by Tanguy De Kermel and the short L’Odyssée de Choum by Julien Bisaro to take away the prizes.
