Fredrikstad Animation Festival 2026: Selection Results

 Fredrikstad Animation Festival (FAF) announced the official short film competition selection for its 2026 edition, presenting 60 films from 32 countries across five continents. The selection spans six competition programs, offering audiences a sweeping showcase of the creativity, craft, and cultural range defining contemporary animated storytelling.

More than half of the selected films are directed by women, underscoring the festival's ongoing commitment to representation both behind and in front of the camera.
While celebrating animation's international reach, FAF continues to place the Nordic-Baltic region at the heart of its programming. Five dedicated competition strands showcase animated film from across the Nordic and Baltic countries, with every nation in the region represented this year.

The films show the diverse impact of the international animation scene, both thematically, technically, and expressively. We look forward to presenting the competition program to a large audience when we all gather at Fredrikstad Kino in October to celebrate the tremendous creativity presented by this year's filmmakers - Anders Moen, Festival Director at Fredrikstad Animation Festival.

Audiences can expect to see the full spectrum of the medium on display, from classic hand-drawn techniques to cutting-edge CGI, with first-time filmmakers screening alongside established voices in the industry.
