Nina Gantz - The Craft of Stop-Motion: Making Independent Animated Films (VIDEO / GoCritic! Review)

If there’s an independent animator who has a claim to fame outside the festival circuit, it’s the Dutch filmmaker Nina Gantz. Her short film 'Edmond' (2016) won at Sundance, while 'Wander to Wonder' won a BAFTA and was nominated for an Oscar, with both films becoming internet hits. She was on the Grand Competition – Short Film jury at Animafest and held a masterclass entitled “The Craft of Stop-Motion: Making Independent Animated Film”, providing extensive insight into the process that led her to creating 'Wander to Wonder'.

GoCritic! had the privilege of sitting down with Gantz for Zippy Frames after the event, for a conversation in which she spoke about her influences, moving from hand-drawn animation to stop motion, the techniques she used, illustrating it with actual puppets from 'Wander to Wonder', plus she shared details about two feature films she is working on.
