The awards ceremony took place Saturday, 3 February 2108, 7:00pm (PST), and was also streamed live, for the seventh year in the history of the Annie Awards. Presenters included actress Wendie Malick; Coco’s Anthony Gonzalez; Director Nora Twomey and actress Saara Chaudry from The Breadwinner; Disney voice talent Russi Taylor; SpongeBob himself, Tom Kenny; Animators Mark Henn and Floyd Norman, and other industry notables, including Debi Derryberry, and E.G. Daily.
A June Foray special commemoration was also in place:
This year, besides our tremendous slate of awards and honors, we will be dedicating the ceremony to our beloved June Foray. More than anyone else, June was responsible for founding the Annies 45 years ago. This will be the first year she is not going to be with us, so we will do our best to remember and celebrate June's creativity, generosity and unrelenting advocacy for the animation community. - Frank Gladstone, ASIFA-Hollywood's executive director.
Created in 1972 by veteran voice talent June Foray, who passed away in July at the age of 99, and in whose name the philanthropic June Foray Award was established, the Annie Awards™ have grown in scope and stature for the past four decades. ASIFA-Hollywood is the world’s first and foremost professional organization dedicated to promoting the Art of Animation and celebrating the people who create it.
