Anca Damian, Funan, Buñuel in the CARTOON Tributes Nominees

The Cartoon Movie animated features pitching and co-pro event has announced the finalists for Cartoon Tributes 2019. The awards honor outstanding contribution to the development of European animation over the last year, in the categories of Director, Distributor and Producer of the Year. The nominees will be voted on by the 900 animation professionals attending the 21st edition of Cartoon Movie, being held in Bordeaux, France from March 5-7.

Cartoon Movie is also one of 10 co-production markets around the world partnering with the Council of Europe’s Eurimages Fund to present the Eurimages Co-Production Development Award: a cash prize of €20,000 to encourage international co-productions from the initial stages of a project. The eight features in development selected for the event will contend for the prize, with the winner to be announced alongside the Cartoon Tributes on March 7.

EUROPEAN DIRECTOR OF THE YEAR

  • Anca Damian (Romania) is nominated for her feature Marona’s Fantastic Tale (in sneak preview at Cartoon Movie 2019 – release date: September 2019 in France). In 2019, the movie won the Special Jury Prize at Animation Is Film and is nominated for the Best Film Award at Miami Film Festival.
