The talents behind “Cartoon Saloon”, “Coco” and “I Lost My Body” at the 9th CHILEMONOS Online Animation Festival
The COVID-19 pandemic has not stopped either animation or CHILEMONOS, which takes its activities to the online world. The talented figures behind these successful and award-winning productions and the Irish studio are part of a series of free master classes, workshops and conferences that will take place between September 30 and October 24.
To maintain social distance, take care of everyone's health and maintain the passion that brings us together around animation, the CHILEMONOS Festival, supported by the Program for Strengthening Cultural Organizations of the Ministry of Arts, Cultures and Heritage, decided to bring its activities to the online world. There will be 15 activities in total, 3 master classes, 3 conferences, 2 Q&A, 1 panel, 1 interview and 5 workshops, which will be freely available to the public, upon registration. Just days after its European premiere on Apple TV, “Wolfwalkers” promises to be one of the recognized hits of the Irish studio Cartoon Saloon. The curiosity of its protagonist Robyn and the magic of the members of the tribe who can turn into a wolf, arrives on Friday, October 9 at 12:00 (Chile time) at the CHILEMONOS International Animation Festival in a master class created for our festival by the co-founder of the studio and Oscar-nominated director Toom Moore along with the Chilean animator of “Wolfwakers”, Víctor Paredes, who will have them live to answer questions from the public.
Sergio Pablos, the creator of the Minions and director behind the success of the Oscar-nominated feature film, “Klaus”, will be interviewed live for CHILEMONOS on Thursday, October 15 at 11:00 (Chile time). During the event, the public will be able to ask questions to the animator, who was also part of the Tarzan team, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Hercules, Teasure Planet and after the character design of Rio.
Daniel Arriaga, talent behind Pixar's great productions and character art director of the Annie-winning film “Coco” and Toy Story 3, will give us a Character Design Workshop, where he will also tell us about his career, his main influences and his creative process next Wednesday, October 14 at 11:30 (Chile time). From the hand of the French Institute's Creadores de Hoy program, David Nasser, the animation director of the Oscar nominee for the best animated film “Lost My Body”, arrives in Chile virtually. On October 24 at 12:00 Chile time, the animator will take us on a tour of his career, his experience in the world of animation, and the latest projects he has in hand.
In the question and answer format, the participating feature films “El Patalarga” and “Nahuel y el Libro Mágico” as well as “Homeless” and “Día de Muertos”, will have two days respectively, on Friday 2 and Wednesday 7 October at 11:00 Chile time.
Chilean talent is also present
From the independent animation, on October 8 at 7:00 p.m. there will be Crononauta, a science fiction series that some years ago became the first to send a cartoon into space. It will be analyzed together with its director Martín Felice and producer Sebastián Zegers how the creation of independent animated series is carried out in Chile through the experience of Crononauta.
Also, on October 16 at 7:00 p.m., the directors Antonia Herrera and María Elisa Soto-Aguilar, co-founders of Punkrobot, after the Oscar winner “Historia de un Oso”, will lead a master class on the creation of children's content as a result of his series “Guitarra y Tambor”, a production carried out in conjunction with the Brazilian Hype studio. And on October 21 at 7:00 p.m. more about the secret archives of René Ríos Boettiger, better known as “Pepo”, from the hand of the cultural managers Claudio Aguilera and Pedro Maino, will be learnt.
Technique in CHILEMONOS
Over four weeks, it will look for a promotion to give over the technological knowledge and emerging trends through the second edition of the CGI. From Argentina, Martina Santoro will take us to analyze the Unreal software for animation in two days, on October 1 and 15 at 7:00 p.m., where the engine and how to integrate Unreal to the pipeline respectively will be analyzed. To finish the professionalizing area, on October 17 at 11:00 am, the Chilean illustrator Alfredo Cáceres will show his creation process and how he uses Photoshop to reach the expected result.
