Signe Baumane's 'My Love Affair with Marriage' Comes to DVD/Blu-Ray
We called it "jazzy, brain-infested animated musical and feminist animated feature" in our original film review. Now Signe Baumane's second animation feature 'My Love Affair with Marriage' (after 'Rocks in my Pockets') comes to DVD/Blu-Ray via MVD Entertainment.
The film follows Zelma (Dagmara Dominczyk) as she navigates a series of romantic encounters, each shaping her understanding of love and marriage. With unflinching honesty, she grapples with the conflicting forces of passion and disillusionment, her desires, fears, and insecurities, painting a raw and intimate portrait of the human heart.
The 2D/stop-motion film premiered at the 2022 Tribeca Film Festival, before getting a Jury Distinction at the 2022 Annecy Festival -and a 2022 European Film Award nomination for Best Animation Feature. Voice cast includes Matthew Modine ('Stranger Things', 'Oppenheimer'), Cameron Monaghan (Showtime's 'Shameless', 'The Giver').
Signe Baumane said this when talking to Olga Bobrowska about the film and its animated musical character.
I had to go all the way back to the origins: where and when, did I ever first get this idea of marriage? Suddenly, when writing the script and having the characters, they just started signing. What is love and how to handle it?; how to be a woman?; how to be a man?; and why marrying … ? – very often the drive comes from the pop culture which makes these ideas very sexy, very appealing. With songs and dances, you want to conform, not because you’re forced to, but because they’re so glamorous and beautiful: “I want to love this way”, “I want to marry that way”!
