April Fools: Pixar To Remake Persepolis as A Bear Movie
The much-loved French Persepolis by Marjanne Satrapi (based on her own graphic novel and memories) and Vincent Paronnaud now gets US studio treatment.
For the first time in its history, Pixar goes on to produce a remake of a European film, let alone a black-and-white film of a girl who lives in Iran during the Islamic revolution.
The new 3D, colored version of the Oscar-nominated film will focus on a bear family in mythical Persia, whose members are alienated, and they don't talk to each other a lot (they only grunt). However, things change when the newest member of the family, the female bear cub Suzanne, goes on to show the whole family the true potential of love and devotion to each other.
Persepolis is a great story to tell for both kids and adults. We' re really excited to be able to bring to US audiences such beauty of design and a wholly different culture, which we can explore to such great extent. Apart from political sub-plots (which can't fit in our updated version), all other elements of the excellent film will be present, and -I might dare say- even enhanced - John Lasseter
No director has been attached to the project yet, but Brad Bird and Pete Docter are two of the favorites to lead. Working title is "A Bear in Iran" - to be finalized. Expect more news in the upcoming April.
