Wes Anderson Plans Stop-Motion Film via Vittorio De Sica
Will it be the second stop-motion film that Wes Anderson directs? The first one he directed, 'Fantastic Mr. Fox' (2009), a deadpan satire on the nature vs. nurture debate, received two Academy Award nominations (but lost the Oscar for animated feature to Pixar's Up).
During his visit and masterclass to the Lisbon & Estoril Film Festival, Wes Anderson stated that his major influences include De Sica, Visconti, Fellini, and Rossellini. He also mentioned that his next project might be a stop-motion project that shares the same episodic structure as Vittorio De Sica's The Gold of Naples (1954).
The Gold of Naples is a pastiche film comprising six comic and dramatic episodes set in the town of De Sica's youth, starring Sophia Loren, Silvana Mangano, and Toto.
