LAIKA, Dreamworks, and an animation feature from Ireland dominate the 42nd Annie nominations.

The Japanese Oscar-winning filmmaker will receive an Honorary Award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in November.

271 artists were invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. In the animation department, though, this invitation favors predominantly the established US animation studios.

For a second year in a row, the Academy prefers mostly feel-good films to animation's edgy alternatives.

 Signe Baumane's animated feature also won the Ecumenical Jury prize (special mention) at the Czech festival.
